Young people from local schools joined MP Brian Mathew’s Careers Fair at the Assembly Hall last week, with over 150 in attendance.
Students from Melksham Oak Community School, Devizes School and St Laurence School in Bradford-on-Avon attended the fair on Friday 20th March to speak to a range of local businesses.
Brian Mathew said, “A huge thank you to our local schools and all the local businesses. The energy in the room was amazing, and it was great to see so many local youngsters having meaningful conversations with our brilliant local employers. One of my key aims is to make sure young people in this area of Wiltshire see there are amazing jobs available to them on their doorstep.
“Traditionally, I think there has been a bit of a perception that you need to move away to find work, but all of our businesses have locations within our constituency and are keen to employ local people.”
Businesses in attendance included the Post Office, Network Rail, Wiltshire Council, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Wiltshire Police and Bluebird Care.
Since being elected, the MP has also set up the Melksham and Devizes Business Network, which held its first event – a business breakfast – earlier this year.
