Deputy manager of Leekes, Jon Miller, has successfully abseiled 120 feet down a quarry rock face for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Jon joined a group of retired police officers from Weston-super-Mare and Nailsea on the 7th May to abseil down the rock face of Uphill Quarry, raising over £10,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Jon said, “It went very well. We have had support from all over the world via the fundraising website and we even received a signed CD from the current members of Status Quo, which we are going to auction online.
“The abseil itself was such an experience. When we were at the top of the cliff I was ready to walk back down and not complete it, however the team that were doing it were fantastic and supported each individual person going down. The worst part was stepping backwards trying to find a 3-inch ledge on the rock face and leaning out to put tension onto the ropes and at that stage it was the point of no return!
“On the way down, there was a feeling still of fear but also euphoria at doing it and then reaching the ground to be greeted by the family and over 100 supporters was amazing and quite emotional.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to all the wonderful staff and customers at Leekes who have contributed so kindly.”
