A LOCAL man has taken part in a 160ft bungee jump over Bristol harbourside to raise money to help repair the spire of Christ Church in Shaw.
Inspired by the news that the church is at risk of closure if money can’t be found to replace the 112-year-old oak shingles on the spire of the church, boxer Liam Richards made the big leap last week.
Liam, also known as Rocco said, “I boxed in Manchester the night before on a big Sky Sports show, so you could say I had plenty to distract me. The lads in the gym were really helpful, reminding me how windy it was going to be up there!
“As for how the jump went, I can honestly say I was excited from waking up that morning, right up until I was standing up there in the crane. I didn’t really get that much time to sweat as it was buckle up, hoisted up, then 1, 2, 3 jump!
“So far the jump has raised around £800, which is incredible as I wasn’t sure how much I would raise. I’d love to reach the original target of £1,000 to really help the church make a difference.
I would like to thank everyone who has donated so far, superb support!” There is still plenty of time to donate at: www.just giving.com/crowdfunding/ shaw-church.”
