A NEW underpass mural, an original song for Melksham and a painted milk churn trail are just some of the ideas for local art projects to be considered by the town council.
The council’s Community Arts Project Working Group will choose three projects to move forward out of six that have been proposed.
Other ideas include murals around the town; a community music video, working with groups, schools, businesses; and a skaters bench – a project using repurposed skateboards to build new benches and other items of street furniture to go near the skatepark in King George V.
“An idea that has been popular is to copy the trails in other cities – Lions, Gromit, etc – to create a trail of painted milk churns throughout the town,” said the town council’s community development officer, Miriam Zaccarelli in a report to councillors.
For an underpass mural, she added, “It could be a collaborative art project with local artists and young people to paint a mural across the 200m length of wall leading to and under the A350 by the train station.”
Once the Community Arts Project Group has chosen their preferred projects, detailed costings will be explored for each of the three projects and then grant funding sought to cover those costs.
