THE Conservative Club puts on music nights regularly throughout the year, looking to provide a range of bands to satisfy all musical tastes.
Next up on Saturday 20th April at 7.30pm is the band, A Smile, Two Bangs and a Legend, who will be performing a mix familiar rock tracks from artists including ZZ Top, AC/DC, Tom Petty, Robert Plant, Joe Jackson and Roxy Music.
“Our first new band must have one of the most unusual band names on the circuit but that does not mean they won’t be playing some very familiar tracks from some huge names in music history,” explains club member Keith Taylor.
“When asked how the name came about, one of the band members owned up to saying it was based on a Monty Phyton sketch – Ken Budda, but they misheard it. So the band, which originally formed 35 years ago (with a few sabbaticals in between), could or even should have been named ‘A Smile, Two Bangs and a Religion’!
“Intriguing story and I am sure the band will be just as interesting. So we look forward to welcoming them to the venue on Saturday 20th April.
“Doors open at 7.30pm and everybody is welcome. Entrance fee will be £5 to cover costs but I am sure it will be well worth it.
“We will be looking to continue the foray into bands new to the Cons Club throughout 2024 and beyond. Watch this space!”
