THE Destiny Africa Children’s Choir will be returning to Melksham next month as part of their UK tour.
The choir, from Kampala Children’s Centre in Uganda, is set to perform at Melksham Assembly Hall on Friday 11th October at 7pm, marking their sixth visit to the area since 2008, and they promise to deliver an evening filled with the vibrant rhythms of Africa.
Many of the children in the choir, aged between 8 and 13, come from challenging backgrounds, having been orphaned by war, abandoned or left destitute by the AIDS crisis. The Kampala Children’s Centre was founded in 2005 by Arnold Muwonge, who wanted to make a difference in the lives of Uganda’s most vulnerable children. Today, the Centre is home to nearly 200 children, all legally adopted, and offers them a nurturing environment along with an education or trade skills for their future.
The choir’s performances not only showcase their musical talents but also share their life-changing stories. The children’s enthusiasm and joy leave a lasting impact on audiences, as many local teachers and students who have seen them perform can attest. During their visit, the choir will also lead assemblies and drum workshops at schools in Melksham and Trowbridge.
An member of in the audience at a previous show, Donna Wood, said, “Can’t wait to see this wonderful performance again. Not to be missed!”
The choir’s visit is being organised by Maranatha Church in Trowbridge and GoodNews Church in Melksham. All proceeds from the event will support the ongoing work of Kampala Children’s Centre.
