ARTISTS in Melksham had their work on display recently as part of the Cloth Road Arts Week.
The event saw artists from across West Wiltshire opening their homes to the public to showcase their artwork, as parts of their homes were turned into temporary art galleries. The event, which was free to attend, also gave art enthusiasts the opportunity to share ideas.
In Melksham two homes were opened up as part of the art trail as Elisa Amor displayed her sculpture and textile work at her house in Hazelwood Road and her mother Paula Amor a landscape artist held workshops at the same address.
Dilys Fisher and her husband Paul opened their doors to the public on King Street as part of the trail as Dilys displayed her kiln fired enamelling on copper and Paul had a gallery of his watercolours.
Elisa said, “It has been good. We have had a steady amount of visitors and we have been involved previously in Cloth Road Arts Week so we knew what to expect. We have had good feedback with regards to our work so that’s always nice to hear.”
Paul and Dilys Fisher were taking part for the first time and deemed it a success. Paul said, “It has been great really. We have had lots of people come and visit. It is amazing how many artists there are in Melksham and we have even been able to sell a few bits too, so it’s been excellent. We will definitely be taking part next time.”
Dilys holds enamelling on copper courses in Melksham which have been attended by artists from as far away as Australia who have planned a visit to the town for the course as part of their visit to the UK. For details visit her website www.rosymdesign.com
