A LOCAL woman has achieved a life-long dream of taking part in a skydive after losing over 7 stone in weight.
Resident of Bowerhill, Nicole Poa-Paterson, started her weight loss journey in January, inspired by her two young children. “It was never about anything cosmetic, it was about wanting to live as long as possible for the kids,” she said. “I was older when I had the kids, I was 38 when I had my first. So I wanted to be fit, healthy and the best parent I could. I feel so much better about myself and I have my confidence back.”
To mark losing 7 and a half stone, Nicole made the brave jump out of the plane at 10,000ft in September. “I was under the maximum weight allowed to take part, so it was finally physically possible for me to do the skydive,” she explained.
“It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do and I did it for a cancer charity that is close to my heart, a Frome-based charity called We Hear You. I raised £1,700 for them, and I am really chuffed with that.
“I also wanted the kids to look up and say, ‘That’s my mum jumping out of that plane’ and to be proud of me.
“It felt amazing afterwards, it was so exhilarating. It was like nothing else I’ve ever felt in the world and it gave me a real sense of achievement. It really made me think about the weight loss and how far I’ve come. I definitely want to do it again, this time from the higher height of 15,000ft!”
Nicole achieved the weight-loss with the support of staff at the Snowberry Lane Clinic and the weight loss treatment plan, Alevere Therapy. Nicole said, “You’re given a strict diet to stick to and lots of support from the therapists and monthly meetings with the doctor. It’s all medically supervised, so I felt very safe.”
Alevere Therapy is a weight loss treatment plan that is medically supervised. It uses a combination of a detailed diet plan based on the individual, a number of non-surgical treatments on the body and a stabilisation of insulin production in the body to provide a boosted weight loss process that also ensures the body can naturally adapt and allow for one’s skin not to be affected by change.
