Although David Webb has lived in Atworth all his life, his many interests have taken him all over the world.
For many years he was a farmer, but ploughing furrows and tending cattle didn’t prevent him from enjoying a varied and interesting life. Shortly after he married he took up photography, allowing him to record both the activities he has been involved in and the changes in Atworth.
Alan Lee of Atworth Camera Club reports, “On Monday 28th January, David showed us pictures of some of the cameras he has owned starting with a 120 film camera with the lens mounted on a fold out bellows. Some years later he bought his first SLR, a Nikkormat, and later still his first digital camera, a Minolta. He told us some interesting stories of how he made his choices, and how he sometimes bought something totally different. David is rarely seen without a camera and has taken a huge number of pictures using many different cameras.
“He showed us images he has taken, including some using experimental equipment (e.g. two lenses with two bellows to create an ultra-long telephoto lens) and some using experimental techniques, such as using a long exposure while zooming the lens or twisting the camera body for creative effects.
“To complete the evening Derek Mason showed us a panel of images providing a personal view of Christmas.
“Our next meeting on February 25th will be a members’ evening, starting with a short presentation on “Northern Lights” by Clive Greenland. This will be followed by members’ images on the theme “wildlife”. Rex Haythornthwaite, who has a particular interest in this subject, will be the first to present on this topic, followed by any other members who have images to show.
“The meeting on March 25th will be a studio evening in which Derek will cover “still life” using ring lights and tethered capture.
“Our meetings are held on the last Monday of each month at 7.30pm in Atworth Village Hall, and the £2 fee includes refreshments. All are welcome.”
