ATWORTH WI held their October meeting on Monday 16th, where they heard about the Scandinavia Day that some members attended at West Lavington Hall.
There were flags on the tables, displays of costume and artefacts brought by three very interesting speakers, Smorgasboard for lunch with a special cake afterwards, a Scandinavian quiz and Abba songs to finish off the enjoyable day.
There was also a report of the very interesting Annual Council meeting held in Salisbury on October 11th.
The speaker at our meeting was Dawn Lawrence who is passionate about wildlife and conservation in particular, worldwide. She writes fascinating poems about animals that are endangered, giving each animal a voice. She is a supporter of the Born Free Foundation founded by Virginia McKenna and part of the proceeds from her books goes to support threatened and endangered species. Dawn’s work has been used in schools to raise awareness of these problems.
Our next event is our Autumn Fayre on November 4th at Atworth Village Hall 10am –12noon. Along with tables of home produce, plants, books and games, we will be including a Christmas craft stall with all articles made by our members, and other stalls of baby knitwear, cards and jewellery.
Our next meeting is on Monday 20th November, 7.30pm at the village hall when Philipa Batty will be telling us about The Alexander Technique.
