FOUNDER of local charity, Evie’s Gift, Bryan Clover will attempt to cycle 100 miles in one day on a stationary exercise bike.
And if that challenge wasn’t hard enough already, Bryan will attempt the cycle ride with a loaded backpack weighing 30lbs!
Bryan will attempt the challenge on Sunday 16th August, and has set himself a fundraising target of £1,000 – so far he has raised over £750.
Money raised from the event will be donated to Evie’s Gift – the charity set up by Bryan and his wife Patsy in memory of their 13-year-old daughter, Evie, who died from an aggressive brain tumour in 2018.
Money will also be donated to the Rainy Day Trust – the UK’s only charity supporting the home improvement workforce and their families in times of need.
Bryan said, “You will probably have seen that the Prudential London Surrey 100 Bike Ride set for mid-August has been cancelled because of Covid19 and replaced by a virtual event. So, in the best traditions of doing something completely nuts, I’m taking part.
“I might never have managed to cycle 100 miles from London to Surrey, but at least I can do some freestyle stuff and raise some cash for both Rainy Day Trust and Evie’s Gift.
“As it is freestyle, I am going to use an exercise bike, and start at 8am on Sunday 16 August and ride until I can’t ride any more or just fall off – and no training in advance!
“I would hope to be able to cover 100 miles, but we’ll see – I have a feeling that I’m going to need lots of padding.
“I haven’t ridden a bike in 40 years, so this is going to be interesting. Just to spice it up a bit, I’m going to ride in full hiking kit including a loaded backpack weighing 30lbs!”

Bryan and Patsy’s charity, Evie’s Gift, has two main aims: to give immediate financial assistance to parents whose children have been admitted to hospital with a life threatening or life limiting condition, and to fund research into the rare brain cancer.
