The Avon Bowls Club has welcomed the new season with a gathering and the raising of the club’s flag earlier this month.
Members, friends and family of the club enjoyed a fun-filled day at the green next to Melksham House on Saturday 12th April. Around 50 members played a friendly game, followed by refreshments and a raffle.
The club’s flag was raised by the men’s and ladies’ captains, along with club chairman Malcolm Hole, officially declaring the new season underway.
New members of all abilities are welcome to join Avon Bowls Club. “We have many leagues and competitions, and whatever your ability, there are plenty of opportunities to play and make friends,” said a spokesperson for the club.
“We have coaches to help if you haven’t played the sport before, or to improve your game if you have.
“There are many benefits to playing bowls. Your health can benefit from being outdoors, and it can help your fitness, as there is quite a bit of walking up and down and bending.
“We have a club night on Tuesdays from 6pm for anyone who would like to come along and try bowls. We are a friendly bunch of people – you’ll be assured of a warm welcome.”
The season now runs until September. For details of how to join the club and try out the sport, contact abc-secretary@hotmail.co.uk.
