Following the devastating fire that destroyed their Pavilion last weekend the home side were determined to ‘get the game on’ and would like to thank Beehive for the way they embraced to day.
Asked to bat, Beehive lost a couple of quick wickets before the experienced pair of Reeves (34) and Spong (49) added 75 for the 3rd wicket. Another 2 quick wickets fell which left the visitors struggling on 108/5 after 27 overs.
The game turned when Warren and Collins (38) came together. Excellent running saw them add 39 for the 6th wicket. They were supported by further partnerships which saw the visitors finish on 201/8.
Both Tom Watling and Jack Footner finished with 3 wickets and they were supported by some good catches in damp conditions
The home side’s innings followed a similar pattern to the visitors, but significantly they were unable to build a big partnership. Chris Singh (48) and Paul Drew (21) who was playing his first game for 4 years after injury got starts but couldn’t continue as the Beehive bowlers kept a tight line. Pick of the bowlers was the experienced Gareth Lapham who finished with 3/15 off 9 as the home side were all out for 142
The club would like to thank the following for ensuring this game was able to take place: Autotech Garage for sponsoring the game; Melksham Town FC for the use of changing rooms and club house; Melksham Rugby Club for the use of their storage facility; Beehive Southwick for putting up with basic facilities.
