ORGANISERS are gearing up for Melksham’s biggest ever Comic Con this year with the event being enlarged to run over two days and three venues.
Tickets are on sale now for the event which is in its fifth year. This year’s Comic Con will take place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th August, with the main convention based in Melksham Assembly Hall and other attractions based at the Kings Arms and Town Hall.
Organiser and owner of local shop Komix!, Hayley Spencer said, “This year is our fifth comic convention here in Melksham, and our team are super proud of this.
“We’ve worked hard voluntarily for five years to raise enough funds, and secure support from local companies and individuals every year to cover the costs of the event – which run into thousands of pounds every year.
“This year, we’re bringing Melksham the biggest Melksham Comic Con ever! The event will take place over two days and we’re moving up to three venues.
“The Assembly Hall will be our main Convention Centre for the whole weekend, featuring special guest artists and writers, super talented independent creators, retailers and so much more.
“The town hall will be the place to be to interact with guests and creators during special discussion panels, Q&A sessions and fun game-show style mini-events. Anyone who remembers Comic Con Pictionary from last year will have an idea of what to expect.
“We’re very excited to announce that The Kings Arms Hotel is our brand new venue for 2016. The Kings Arms will play host all weekend to the Games Room where people can take part in card and tabletop gaming – try out new games, learn how to play, or compete with others.
“The Kings Arms Coach House will be the Workshop Room where people can learn certain art styles from special speakers, from pencilling and colouring to digital comic creating.
“The pub and restaurant will also be open and all Comic Con wristband holders will get 15% off food and drink at the bar, so it’s the place to be!
“Our team started in 2011 with just six volunteers planning the whole thing, and then about 20 more volunteers joining us on the day to help run the convention.
“Since then, our planning team has grown to 25 members, with on-the-day volunteers choosing to join us in a more involved role for the following year. It’s fantastic, and a true testament to what people in our community are capable of.”
There will also be a Comic Con party on the Saturday night.
