Melksham travelled to Calne for the return fixture and bonus point win 3-34.
From the off the visitors’ attacking line out, in the home 22, brought reward for centre Callum Gillard, taking the ball at pace to touch down in the first three minutes. Conversion added by Scrum Half Callum Hurn.
That promising start turned into the only points in the half as the home team defence fought on desperately to keep the visitors out.
Pressure increased by the visitors in the second half causing Calne to cough up a penalty struck by Hurn to start the scoreboard off. Minutes later Luke Cador attacked down the wing with a sublime “kick and collect” to score, Hurn adding the extras.
With the visitors’ pressure maintained, winger Jamie Shipman, denied minutes earlier, struck again returning a clearance kick to score out wide. Alex Britton continuing his strong performance broke through the centre and on to Hurn, who stepped through defenders to earn the bonus point and then add the conversion. Calne were unable to combat the width and pace, as Jake Spooner struck down the other wing to round off the scoring for Melksham. Calne avoided the whitewash with a well struck penalty at the end of the game to finish 3-34.
