A FORMER Bowerhill resident is this week competing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in Cyprus, playing for her team, Swansea City Ladies.
Melissa Sartain will help her team take on CSKA Moscow in the knock-out stages of the competition at the Tsirion Stadium in Limassol, this Wednesday 18th August.
“This is an incredible opportunity,” Melissa told Melksham News, “and I am really grateful and excited to compete at this level, a level you can only dream of.”
And Melissa is hoping her experience competing at this level, will inspire other Melksham girls playing at grassroots level. She said, “Dream big and work as hard as you can. If it wasn’t for the endless support and encouragement of my family, I wouldn’t be playing at the level I am today.”
About her football career, Melissa said, “I grew up and lived in Bowerhill and started kicking a football at the age of four. However, I didn’t start playing for a girls’ team until I was 13 years old when I joined the Bradford on Avon girls’ team. I progressed on to play for Team Bath, Swindon Town Ladies, Keynsham Town Ladies and Larkhall Athletic Women’s FC.
“In 2020 I moved to Swansea, and signed for Swansea City Ladies, who compete in the Welsh Premier Women’s Football League.”
