The new road linking the Bowerhill estate to the A350 Semington bypass will open from 17th August.
Portal Way, which has been completed using funds from the sale and development of the former running track, will save time for people wishing to travel to and from Bowerhill and will help to divert HGVs away from residential areas.
The new road will also create a stronger presence for businesses at the site by improving connectivity to the rest of the country via the A350 and the motorway network, in line with the aspirations of the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership’s strategic plan.
Fleur de Rhe-Philipe, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for economic regeneration said, “The completion of this road will benefit the estate as a whole, both the industrial and residential areas. It will reduce journey times for vehicles travelling to and from the south considerably, and this will of course reduce emissions.
“The regeneration of this area of Melksham really is very exciting and I’m delighted we have been able to help facilitate it.”
The first part of the road was built by Cereal Partners following its warehouse development. The second part of the road was completed by Herman Miller, a condition of the planning permission for its recently completed advanced manufacturing facility. The work included the demolition and rebuilding sports pavilion for the Parish Council. These new facilities will be an asset to the community and local clubs for many years to come.
Richard Scott, vice-president international operations at Herman Miller said, “We were delighted to be able to build our new facility in Melksham, and pleased that the local community will benefit from the new sports pavilion and link road.”
