MELKSHAM is set to have its very own boxing ‘Fight Night’ with a special guest appearance from the World Boxing Council (WBC) international, British and Commonwealth featherweight champion Lee Selby.
The event is taking place at Assembly Hall on Friday 17th January from 7.30pm with a full evening of bouts planned. The main fight includes Melksham fighter Nick Tuckett in a heavyweight rematch with Dave Gregory, who he knocked out in their previous fight.
The event is being organised by James Adams who grew up in Melksham and has always been a keen boxing fan. He said, “Melksham is the perfect place to have this event with places like Dragonslair well attended so there is the interest in the area.
“Having lived in Melksham I know how frustrating it is that you have to usually travel to see events like this where top quality boxers get the chance to express themselves in the ring. So it will be great for the people of Melksham to have it on their doorstep. People will be coming from all over to watch this and we have already sold tickets to people living as far as London. On top of that, having Lee Selby a champion boxer there to talk to boxing fans about the sport will be a great opportunity for many.”
Bouts confirmed for ‘Fight Night’ include:
Heavyweight fight. Nick Tuckett v Dave ‘Bam Bam’ Gregory: This is the headlining fight and also a rematch. Nick won the last fight by a knockout so his opponent is looking for revenge!
Nick is from Melksham with mainly MMA (mixed martial arts) experience but has a few boxing bouts under his belt. Dave is known as being a rough and ready tough guy from Swindon who will fight anybody.
14 stone fight. Josh Humphries v Kenton Kauppinen: Josh has been training for a year or so but this is his debut fight in any discipline. Kenton is from Spartans Gym in Chippenham. He has had a few MMA fights previously but not for a few years, has just got back into training and this is his return fight.
11 stone fight. Luke Pomeroy v Ryan Towler-Wilson: Luke has some previous MMA experience but has been out of action for about a year having moved to Swindon from London. Ryan is a late replacement for Melksham’s Krim Keen Memis who has had to pull out for personal reasons.
12 and half stone fight. Andy Webb v Gav ‘Skarface’ Towler-Wilson: Andy fights out of Spartans Gym in Chippenham and has a record of 2-1, Gav is the older bother of Ryan who is fighting in the 11 stone category and has a record of 2-4-2. This is expected to be a cracker!
13 stone fight. Darren ‘Chippy’ Jones v Dan ‘Vinni’ Edwards: Darren is a no nonsense tough guy who has a reputation of not backing down from anybody! Dan is an experienced MMA fighter with a strong record.
12 stone fight. Shawn Hill v Branko Stenna: This is the newbie fight as both guys are new to the sport and have only been training a short amount of time!
