THE Broughton Gifford ‘A’ team compete in the Tuesday afternoon men’s five division White Horse League and have reached the play-off finals at Spencer Melksham on 6th September.
“The top team from each of the five divisions plus the three best runners up will compete on a knockout basis over three successive days with the two finalists meeting on Wednesday 8th.” explains Mervyn Davies on behalf of the club. “Broughton’s ‘A’ team began the league campaign well and it just got better as the season went on, winning their first five games, and ending the league campaign with twelve wins from sixteen games.
“ BG visited Bradford on 24th August to play the last league game of the season prior to the play-off finals. Second in the table BG needed to avoid defeat against third place Bradford who were just a point behind. With so much at stake a close contest was anticipated which surprisingly didn’t happen. Broughton got off to a flying start, and were eight shots ahead after two ends, they breezed through the first half and went into the tea interval with the score at 17-2. With victory virtually assured BG eased through the second half to win 27-9, ending an afternoon that could not have gone any better.
