Busy month for Flower Arrangement Society

It has been a busy month for the club.  Sheena Sainsbury and Rosalyn Clarke entered the club class ‘Camelot’  in the South West area show which was held at the Bishop’s Palace in Wells.

Although they did not win a prize there were some nice  comments from the judges about their exhibit, which depicted King Arthur and his castle. It had been great fun and they learnt a lot.

Early in the month Julia Harrison a teacher and demonstrator from Exmouth, Devon visited the club and gave an excellent workshop to 16 members and a few members of Chippenham club joined in.  It consisted of using autumn foliage, berries and flowers.  Her ideas were both innovative and easy to carry out.

Nicky Heal a young demonstrator from Somerset came to the club meeting with his ‘creative inspiration’ demonstration.  Nicky manipulated foliage to enhance his creations doing it so quickly much to the amusement and delight of the audience.  His platted  Formium leaf rosettes and woven leaf patterns were a delight to see.

The arrangement that really fascinated members  was very simple – using a cylinder of floral foam wrapped in coloured felt wool he made a series of loops from back to front with bear grass and the centre was filled with orange mini gerberas which looked like a huge flower head, this he impaled on a stick and put in a flowerpot.  A leaf was constructed using platted fermium leaves.  A matching  flowerpot made a very impressive display and very different. He continued through his demonstration using a lovely variety of flowers from a cream caramel carnation to orange lilies, Chinese lanterns, red roses, dark red hydrangeas and sedums.  It was a delightful afternoon from a charming young man.
