A life-long resident of Martigny Road, who spent her entire life in the same house in which she was born, died on 2nd July aged 83-years-old.
Glenda Little, a well-known resident in the town, was born on 20th June 1940 on Martigny Road, where she spent her entire life, living in the three-bed semi-detached house and sleeping in the same bedroom in which she was born in.
Her youngest sister, Aileen Gower said, “Glenda was wonderful. We have so many good memories and had so many good laughs with her. She knew everybody in the town, you couldn’t walk down the street without her seeing someone she knew. She was born in the same house that she always lived in and always slept in the same bedroom.”
As a child, Glenda attended St. Michael’s C.E Primary School and then worked in Unigate Dairies before moving to Nestlé in Staverton. Known as a ‘legend’ by her nieces and nephews, she spent her life caring for her parents; her mother turned 100 years old in 2009.
Aileen added, “Glenda dedicated her life to our parents. She had the opportunity to get married but she decided not to because she didn’t want to leave mum or dad. We were very lucky to have her. Although she lived alone, [after caring for our parents] she used to say that she never felt lonely because she had a big family.”
Glenda went to St. Michael’s School and enjoyed being out and about in the town and surrounding areas, as well as maintaining the garden at the house on Martigny Road.
Aileen said, “She used to attend bingo and every Friday we would go out shopping and have lunch whether that was in Melksham, Trowbridge or Chippenham. She also used to attend Spencer’s Lunch Club too. She also liked gardening and the garden was just beautiful, she absolutely loved it.
“Glenda was kind, generous and loyal. She was a special lady, loved by all the family.”
