DESPITE ‘some challenges’ in 2021, Wiltshire Council says that construction of Melksham’s new community campus has made ‘great progress’ and is still set to open by the autumn.
The Melksham community campus newsletter says that recently completed work includes the roof, external brickwork, secondary metalwork for the sports hall rebound boards, blockwork and render to the first-floor changing rooms, studwork partitions to the first-floor cycle studio and meeting rooms, and independent water supplies to the bowls club, tennis courts and Melksham House.
Upcoming works includes mechanical and electrical works such as the pool filtration system installation, ductwork and containment.
The council is also planning to install accessible facilities for the swimming pools. Wiltshire Council says, “As well as ladders and graduated steps, both the main pool and learner pool will be fitted with state-of-the-art accessibility equipment called Poolpods.
“The Poolpod offers quick, easy and dignified access to the pools for people in wheelchairs and those who have other mobility difficulties, which can make accessing swimming pools difficult.
“The Poolpod system can be used standing or with a submersible wheelchair (we will have two) specifically designed for swimming pools. The chairs allow customers easy transport between changing facilities and the pool.
“The village change area will also incorporate a Changing Places facility, which enables people with a disability to use changing facilities safely and comfortably.”
