PUPILS at Bowerhill Primary School took place in a sponsored fun run last week and managed to raise over £2,000 for CLIC Sargent.
The entire school of around 370 children took part in the run dressed as their favourite superheroes. The key stage two pupils ran a mile starting in the school fields and around the neighbourhood, while the younger children did a shorter half-mile course.
PE administrator Tracey Alder said, “The run went really well and the children loved it. We were surprised by how fast they managed to run it and so many of them wanted to go round again! I think the fancy dress definitely made it more exciting.
“We organised the run because we have a pupil who has leukemia and people wanted to help somehow. Each child paid a pound to take part and collected sponsorship from their family and friends. We haven’t added up all the money yet but it will be over £2,000.
“This isn’t something we’ve done before but judging by the day’s success, we’d like to do a lot more!”
CLIC Sargent is a charity that provides support for children with cancer and their families.
