NOMINATIONS for Melksham’s Civic Awards 2021 are now open – do you know a person or a group who has gone above and beyond for the community?
This year there are four categories, including a new category, ‘The Covid-19 Community Hero(es) Award.
About the new category, the town council says the award will be made to “any individual volunteer or group of volunteers who, in the opinion of the awards committee, has/ have gone above and beyond during the course of the coronavirus pandemic. In doing so, this individual or group will have made a positive impact on the safety and wellbeing of Melksham’s residents in the most difficult of circumstances.”
The three other categories are ‘The Community Service Award’, ‘The Enhancing Melksham Award’ and ‘The Achievement Award’.
“This is the chance to sing the praises of an individual, business or organisation who you believe, through their efforts and achievements, have made a significant contribution to our community,” say the town council. “It is an opportunity to recognise and honour those who have gone above and beyond in trying to improve Melksham and the lives of those who live here.”
About the criteria for the other categories, the town council continued, “The Community Service Award is made to any individual or organisation who, in the opinion of the awards committee, has improved the quality of life of Melksham’s residents.
“The Enhancing Melksham Award is made to any individual, organisation or company who, in the opinion of the awards committee, has improved the physical environment of Melksham. Examples of this could include the refurbishment of a building; the improvement or maintenance of an exemplary shop frontage; the improvement or provision of a natural habitat; or the improvement of a public space.
“The Achievement Award (including sports) is made to any team or individual who, in the opinion of the awards committee, has excelled within their particular field/activity (including sport), either by a significant improvement in their skills and/or personal achievement and development. To qualify for this award a team must be Melksham-based or, in the case of an individual, be resident within Melksham.”
