A CELEBRATION has taken place for a woman who served the community for over 30 years.
Mary Jarvis retired from her role as Melksham Without Parish Council clerk recently having taken on the role in September 1983 and family, friends and former councillors gathered at Cleeve House to celebrate her retirement.
On leaving her role, Mary is Wiltshire’s longest-serving council clerk and she admitted that she has not yet planned what to do next.
Mary said, “I’m not sure for definite what I’m going to do just yet, but I know I would like to stay involved in the Melksham community in some way and give something back and maybe do a little bit of travelling. I have thoroughly enjoyed my job and have to say I have worked with some fantastic and wonderful people who have served Melksham fantastically well.”
Teresa Strange has taken over from Mary as Melksham Without Parish Council’s clerk.
