MELKSHAM community is invited to celebrate the life of Roger Denmark, also known as Roger Dees, who was born, raised and lived in the town all of his life.
Roger was well-known to many in the area for his love of music and voluntary work and this will be reflected in his funeral and celebration of his life.
His daughter Sharon said, “Most well known as The Disco Man, he covered weddings, birthdays and other celebrations and for many years, was the face behind the New Year’s Eve event at Melksham House, Woodlands (Queensway Hall) and later Spencer’s Sports and Social Club.
“He was club leader for Melksham and Corsham Gateway Club for over 25 years and volunteered for the Bristol Children’s Heart Foundation, Melksham Christmas Lights and was involved with the Selwood Vintage Rally. He could also often be seen with his vintage rides at Whitehall Garden Centre’s summer events and with the Lion’s Club Christmas activities and Melksham’s Christmas switch-on event.
“He was also an active supporter of the Melksham Rock ‘n’ Roll scene and had a strong sense of community spirt and a love for Melksham.
“He was married to Rosie and worked in the sawmill, and for over 42 years, in the Avon Rubber Company.”
His funeral is on 14th April at 4.15pm at Semington Crematorium followed by a Celebration of Life gathering afterwards at Spencer’s Club with live music.
Sharon added, “All are welcome, no formal wear please (for the funeral we are happy with your choice of clothing appropriate for how you knew him!) Family flowers only please, donations via DJ Bewley to go towards Bristol Children’s Heart Foundation and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.”
