A CHARITY concert in aid of Dorothy House Hospice will be held at Melksham United Church on Saturday 29th September at 7.30pm.
Audience members can expect a night of popular operatic classics and a tribute to Gilbert and Sullivan performed by Opera Sulis, a vocal ensemble from Bath.
Organisers say, “Soloists Susan Coates- soprano, Sophie Meehan – mezzo soprano, Phillip Borge – tenor and Ashley Bremner- bass will perform a programme of popular operatic arias, duets and quartets with accompaniment provided by the choir of Stonar School with musical director, Nick Goodall.
“The second half of the concert will be dedicated to the music of Gilbert and Sullivan and will be performed in memoriam of Sandy Muir, a teacher at Stonar School for many years.
“Opera Sulis is delighted that the tenor for the evening, Phillip Borge, is flying back to the UK from his home in Gibraltar especially to perform at the concert. A former student of Bath Spa University and founder member of Opera Sulis, Phillip continued his studies at The Royal College of Music and continues to sing on the professional stage in Spain.
“Bass, Ashley Bremner, is no stranger to the operas of Gilbert and Sullivan, having performed many roles professionally in London.
“Graham Billing will provide a witty narrative for the evening and proceeds will go to Dorothy House Hospice. Tickets are £10 and available on the door, or in advance (advised) via contact@operasulis.com, TicketSource and Stonar School music department.”
