MELKSHAM’S own acappella community choir, Macapello, performed in a summer concert in their home town, to raise money for Winston’s Wish, the charity for bereaved children and their families. The evening raised just under £690 for the charity.
In the concert held at the United Church in Melksham on 19th July, they were solidly supported by two other Melksham musical groups – Melksham Ukulele Social Club and Melksham Harmonica Group.
Macapello performed a selection of songs from around the world, including Africa and Russia, along with some closer to home, which produced a beautiful harmonic sound through the accoustics of the United Church. The ukulele and harmonica players also produced lively up-tempo songs.
Before the interval and buffet, a volunteer from Winston’s Wish explained about the work of the charity and was joined by a mother who spoke of the help given to her children by the charity, to help deal with their father’s passing. Macapello’s Melksham concert follows their success in this year’s Bristol Community Choir Convention, where they received a standing ovation. The singers, who are led by Dave and Lisa, meet during term time at Aloeric Primary School, Wednesdays, 7.30pm-9.30pm.
