The opening hours at Melksham Community Larder have been extended due to an increase in produce being collected from supermarkets and saved from landfill.
The larder, based at the Round House in the Prince of Wales Garden on Church Street, prevents food waste by allowing local people to collect surplus produce free of charge.
“As most people know, we are not a food bank,” explained one of the organisers, Adrienne Westbrook. “However, we are pleased that we can help people who need to access free food as well as those who want to support our efforts to reduce food waste.”
The larder’s new opening hours are: Monday at 2pm, Tuesday at 11am, Wednesday at 12pm, Thursday at 11am and Friday at 2pm.
“The larder is run by a fantastic group of volunteers. However, we could always do with more drivers to pick up food and volunteers who might just like to go on our holiday list,” says Adrienne.
Last year, the team also launched the Community Wardrobe at the top of the Round House above the larder, where people can collect clothes that have been donated.
