A CHINESE takeaway came to the rescue of an Indian restaurant over the road, when a power cut hit parts of King Street and the Market Place earlier this month.
Refa Tandoori in the Market Place lost its power just as a large party came in for a celebration meal. But, faced with having to turn them away, King’s Gourmet over the road, came to the rescue, offering them the use of their kitchen.
Owner of Refa Tandoori Gias Uddin said, “We were completely puzzled when the power went to our kitchen. I went over to my friend, Andy at King’s Gourmet, and he offered the use of his kitchen which was a real lifesaver.
“Eventually, we managed to hook up our kitchen using a long extension cable from the restaurant side of our building which still had power so we could cook for the party before the power went back on around 10pm. But it was so good for Andy to offer his help and get us out of a tight spot; it was a real case of community spirit and helping your neighbour.”
