The team running Melksham Community Support are keen to let residents know that they are still offering support for residents impacted by the Coronavirus or those who are staying in their homes due to health reasons.
Chair of Age Friendly Melksham, who are running the project, Jon Hubbard said, “We know that some people are feeling concerned about the recent announcements from the Government about the increased levels of Coronavirus and the possibility of new restrictions.
“Whilst the government has not yet reintroduced shielding or other lockdown restrictions in Wiltshire, the team at Melksham Community Support want to reassure people that our service is still running and will continue to, support people who need our help.”
Jon explained that, “the continued support that has been confirmed by Melksham Without Parish Council and the Melksham Area Board, together with the kind assistance of staff from Melksham Town Council, means that our phone lines continue to be staffed and the fantastic support of the amazing volunteer team means that our prescription and shopping deliveries and friendly phone calls will keep going.
Jon reiterated that “In the event of any additional restrictions being imposed by government, we will continue to run our service and will continue to support residents across the Melksham Community Area who need our support.”
Phillipa Huxtable, Age Friendly co-ordinator said, “We are answering calls between 1pm and 5pm Monday – Friday but people can leave us a message at anytime and we will call them back as soon as possible. Anyone who is unable to leave their home due to restricted mobility or is shielding or self-isolating, can call us on 01225 809265.”
Phillipa has been pleased to see the benefits of the scheme for volunteers too, saying, “One of our volunteers told us that shopping for one of our users, “gives us both immense pleasure, she is so appreciative it gives me a warm glow!”
“If you would like to join our fabulous volunteer team go to www.melkshamcommunity.co.uk/offer-help fill in the form and we’ll take it from there.”
