CHRISTMAS 2013 was a record breaking day for the Core Church Christmas Dinner.
The annual event took place with more guests, more helpers, more produce given, more time, money and services donated and more all-round support than ever before.
Gavin Owen, the organiser of the event said, “It’s all an answer to prayer. God knows what we’ll need each year and we trust him to inspire people to act. Once again Melksham Assembly Hall was made available for us to use; I. D. Newman & Son Butchers offered to supply all the turkey we needed (and if you haven’t tried their turkey you haven’t lived) and Leszan Transport helped us to get everyone there on the day.
“I was told about the Waitrose initiative to tackle isolation at Christmas by Dean at the Melksham Independent News, but before I even filled in the application form I was called by Waitrose Melksham who had seen our advert and were contacting me to suggest we apply. This resulted in a generous financial donation. I was taken completely by surprise when Angela of Food Glorious Food, a local catering company, phoned me and offered to provide us with as many homemade cheesecakes and gateaux as we needed. I got to try the lemon cheesecake and it was a-ma-zing!
“We also received donations of money and goods from many local people and organisations. All of this made it possible for us to feed 130 people on the day. A big thank you from everyone who benefited to everyone who helped and contributed, give yourselves a pat on the back!”
