MELKSHAM Cricket Club is preparing to return to the field following the easing of lockdown restrictions.
The club’s press secretary, Daniel Carpenter, told Melksham News, “Our season is due to begin on time, with our first game being played on the 17th April. Also outdoor training would under normal circumstances be commencing around the time we are permitted to do so with the loosening of restrictions.
“All the behind the scenes work, such as preparing our pitch, has so far preceded with minimal disruption.”
About the impact of the pandemic on the club, Daniel said, “We have not been as adversely effected by the pandemic due to cricket being a summer sport, certainly we have got off a lot less lightly than the likes of football and rugby clubs have done.
“That being said we have had some events cancelled. Around the start of the calendar year we usually begin our pre-season training indoors, which needless to say has been prohibited this winter.
“For the previous two winters we have also fielded a team in an indoor league based in Chippenham; this too was cancelled for the year. Also this winter we have lost opportunities to host multiple fundraising events we try to host every winter, such as an annual club quiz, which provide useful streams of income during the off-season.”
