LOCAL business, Gompels has given £500 to the Melksham Carnival committee towards the running costs of this year’s event – double the amount they usually donate.
James Pritchard, head of customer services at Gompels said, “Gompels is a family-run business that has been in Melksham for many, many years so we always like to support local events and the community. This is the fourth year we have supported the carnival and very pleased to do so.
“As we are celebrating the business’s 50th year this year, we wanted to do something extra for the carnival, so we have doubled our donation from £250 to £500.
“We hope other businesses in the town will also support the carnival in some way. It’s a fantastic day for the whole community to come together and enjoy and if it’s not supported then it simply cannot be put together.”
Christine York, carnival committee press officer said, “We are delighted to have received this cheque from Gompels. We are so grateful for their continued support and especially this year with their very generous donation.
“It can cost between £6,000 and £8,000 to put the carnival together and we need more funds to book more bands, professional performance groups etc. to make it a real spectacle for Melksham to anticipate and enjoy!”
