BEANACRE and Melksham Cricket Club players held a meal and awards evening recently to celebrate the end of a very difficult season on and off the pitch.
After a meal at Melksham Tandoori the following awards were presented: Batting Award: Pete Hayward. Bowling Award: Chris Long. Players’ Player: Chris Long. Captain’s Award: Dan Carpenter. Chairman’s Award: Tim Carpenter.
Club spokesman Andy Footner reports, “Chairman Gary Burns thanked all the players for their efforts during the season, which saw them playing in a division not suited to the players’ ability. He also thanked them for putting up with the lack of facilities due to the club’s pavilion being razed to the ground in June, and said he hopes to be able to announce news of the new pavilion at the club’s AGM on 16th October.
“On the fire he said the help the club had received from the local community and beyond was unbelievable, and that the rebuilding process had already began.
“He also thanked Autotech Melksham for their sponsorship again this season and hoped we can continue our partnership next season.
“Finally, the fundraising raffle was drawn. Tickets had been on sale throughout the season. Several prizes had been donated by local businesses, for which Gary thanked them all.
“The winners were Simon Brewer (round of golf for four at West Wilts Golf Club); Louise (tea for two at Beechfield House); Kev Warder (cool bag from Waitrose); Mrs Burns (£10 The Toy Shop voucher); and John/Barry (£10 The Toy Shop voucher).
“The Club AGM will take place on Sunday 16th October at the Kings Arms, starting 7pm prompt. All 2016 players and parents of youth players are invited to attend and select the club’s committee for 2017, which is likely to be the most important season of the club’s short history.
“Any new players or players wishing to return to the club are also invited to come along for a chat and hopefully take a look at the plans for the new pavilion. This relies on the council having them ready in time.”
