INSTRUMENT donations keep coming in at Melksham’s new music charity and founders say they are ‘overwhelmed’ by local people’s generosity.
Harmony, a new charity hoping to make music lessons accessible to local children, had another bumper donation this month when someone handed over ten electric guitars and five amplifiers.
The charity says people’s generosity means it can start reaching out to children sooner.
Founder Lianne Miller-Hall said, “It’s amazing what people have been bringing in; we didn’t expect it at all. We thought it would be a longer, steady process and that we’d have donations trickle in, but we’re overwhelmed now with all the instruments people are giving us!”
Donors have already given nine trombones, six flutes, six clarinets, 13 guitars and two keyboards. The instruments all have to be checked and cleaned up, but the plan is that they can soon be used by local children to help their families with the costs of learning to play.
“It’s taken us a bit by surprise,” Lianne said. “We thought it would take longer to get to this point so we’re having to get things moving a lot quicker. We were gobsmacked when the first lot of instruments came in but now we’re speechless!
“It’s really exciting – we’re trying to set up relationships with the schools now so we can start giving lessons after Christmas.
“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has already helped by donating, coming into the shop, offering their services or volunteering. We are eternally grateful.”
Harmony has a shop at 24 High Street, which sells clothes, accessories and bric-a-brac.
The charity is also looking for people who can tune pianos or other instruments and know how to properly clean them.
