The Superbike Grand National was held at Castle Combe on the weekend of the 8th and 9th of July.
Melksham competitor Russell Hynes competed in the two Metzeler 700cc Streestock championship races on his Melksham Tyre Supplies 675cc Triumph. In Saturday’s five lap race he finished in third place and he followed this up in his second race on the Sunday with another third place.
Sunday’s race was sponsored by Dymag Performance wheels of Chippenham and Russell collected his third place trophy from Jon Hoy who is european sales manager for Dymag Performance Wheels.
Mark Birkett also from Melksham competed in the Pre Injection 700cc class on notched up 11th place on his CBR 600cc Honda.
Broughton Gifford’s Darrell Higgins who is the most successful motorcycle competitor in the circuit’s history came out of retirement for this event on his Dennis Trollope backed T Z 250cc Yamaha.
He finished in eighth place in his first race and followed this up with a pair of fifth places and said afterwards that he had a great weekend but has no plans to return to regular racing.
