Saturday 5th May Melksham 1st XI 78-1 Biddestone 3rd XI 75-9
Melksham Cricket Club celebrated the opening game in their new pavilion with an emphatic victory over Biddestone 3s on a gloriously sunny day.
After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, the Melksham opening bowlers refused to give the opposition any easy runs, with Gary Ings (9 overs, 4-7) starting the season in particularly unplayable form.
With 7 of the first 12 overs being maidens, the Biddestone batsmen soon succumbed to the Melksham pressure and only had 29 runs on the board by the time the sixth wicket fell.
As the lower order batsmen tried desperately to reach a more respectable target, Jack Footner took advantage, clean bowling his way to a four-wicket haul of his own. After losing all of their wickets, Biddestone finished their innings on 75.
Melksham set about chasing down their target knowing they would have to bat well despite the seemingly easy target. Openers Matt Hunt (36 not out) and Dan Carpenter (18) calmly set about their task and took the scoring opportunities, as well as being solid in defence. Melksham needed only 18 overs to complete their run chase, only losing one wicket in the process to cap off a momentous day for the club.
