THE Pilot in Bowerhill is hosting various events over the festive period and invite you to join them.
On Friday 15th December be entertained by The Shambles from 9pm until 12am. Listen to their acoustic covers of indie, brit and pop classics with members John, Mick, Gary and Ben.
On Saturday 16th December Catch 22 will be there to create a fun, energetic atmosphere with a vast repertoire of music ranging from 50s Rock ‘n’ Roll to modern hits, fresh from the charts. Music starts at 9pm.
On Friday 22nd December celebrate the start of the Christmas weekend with Big Mama & The Misfitz. They will be playing all the best covers from past to present, with a huge range of music that spans the years, always making a night to remember. Music starts at 9pm.
On Saturday 23rd December Nick Taylor’s Ultimate 80s will be setting you in the mood for dancing to shake off the winter chill! Music starts at 9pm.
On Christmas Eve celebrate the last of your Christmas wrapping with Mr Christmas himself! Join in the festivities with a Christmas disco!
Then on Boxing Day, carry on the celebrations and warm up your vocal chords for some Karaoke with Matt. Dip deep into your repertoire of karaoke classics and sing the night away.
On Friday 29th December join Angelheart as they cover a multitude of musical genres, with each being given their own unique rock sound. Music starts at 9pm.
Saturday 30th December welcomes The Decibelles and band, an all-female harmony group, as they sing a multitude of genres with a twist!
Then finally, kick off the New Year with glamorous rocker Ray Jones and band on Sunday 31st December.

The Independent Chapel and Women’s Rights in the 1840s
A document I recently transcribed lists the baptisms performed at the Independent Chapel. This record is especially helpful in that, along with baptisms, a lot of them include birth dates - one of the ways I discover which day someone was born.
The following is taken from a Wiltshire Times article published on 9th November 1878 which reports a speech given during the 100-year services and to celebrate their renovations (what we now know to be the Rachel Fowler Centre).
One speaker, Rev. T. Mann, minister in Trowbridge, talked about the Chapel’s origins when he related how Rev. Honywill came to Melksham and how he’d gone on to remain as the minister for the Independent Chapel for almost 60 years. [Honywill and his family lived on King Street in what we now call “Legion House”.]
