The future of football in Melksham has entered an exciting new phase as the merger has taken place between Melksham Town Football Club and Melksham United Football Club.
And the new club has gained the Charter Standard Community award to become one of only nine clubs in the county with this status.
“Over the past 12 months there has been a lot of work going on in the background between the Melksham Town FC and Melksham United FC with regards to the new development and creating a stronger link between the clubs,” explained Rob Bridges.
“The unanimous conclusion was that we merge the clubs under one banner as Melksham Town FC where the youth players can see a progression through to U18 football and adult football for both boys and girls.
“During this process the club began working towards the Charter Standard Community award which is the highest category under this awards scheme and has now achieved the requirements in time for the new season, becoming one of only nine clubs in the county with Community Status,
“With the merger of the clubs, a decision was taken that every player in the club should wear the coloured kit and over the summer, 500 new kits were ordered for the players. We have been very lucky to receive sponsorship for many of the teams to help with the cost of the kit which is a black and yellow Adidas strip. These will be distributed to all the teams shortly and we plan a club picture at Melksham Town Ground.
“The future for football in Melksham is very exciting and Melksham Town FC look forward to releasing regular updates on the progress of the club, facilities and teams over the next few months. Please check out the website www.melksham townfc.com for information on the youth and senior section.
“We are also looking for old team pictures from the youth section pre-2001 to update our archive of youth football in Melksham. We are particularly looking for pictures from Melksham Park, Shaw and Whitley, Avon Boys and Sherwood Boys or even cub pack teams. Please contact me at robbridges@blueyonder.co.uk if you have any pictures.”
