MELKSHAM Rugby Club have bagged themselves another experienced coach, Chalky Meek, to work with the ladies’ and girls’ section of the club.
Chalky will join the head coach of the ladies’ team, Hannah Berrelly, to improve the abilities of players at Melksham RFC Ladies.
Chalky joined Melksham RFC at the end of last season, leading a few training sessions for the men.
He has come from a coaching and playing background. He began playing rugby whilst in the army, playing for his corp’s team, and this has led him to coach across the country including teams in Leeds, York, Salisbury and the army ladies’ squad.
Chalky’s new role at Melksham RFC will be to coach the ladies’ and girls’ teams and to help increase the amount of ladies that take part in the sport.
Talking to Melksham News Chalky said, “Rugby is an all inclusive sport, it’s not like football where you all have to be quick; it’s a sport for all different shapes, sizes and abilities.
“Melksham Ladies have just been accepted into a league for next season. They spent their season last year just playing friendlies. It is my role now to up-skill them all and keep them competitive in the league. I see it as a very exciting project.
“I’m looking for commitment from all players and for them all to understand their roles within the team.
“We are also encouraging more girls aged 12 years and up to join the girls’ section.
“If you’re thinking of joining the team then do! Everyone is welcome, the sessions we run here are really good. There is absolutely no pressure, if you come and it isn’t for you then that’s fine but you never know until you give it a go.
“You don’t need any background in rugby as that is what we, myself and new men’s coach Chris Chudleigh, are here to do.
“Together we will bring rugby back to Melksham!”
