RESIDENTS in Broughton Gifford are invited to a special public meeting on Thursday 21st September in the village hall, to discuss traffic problems in the village.
Following increased concerns about speeding in the village, the parish council has invited traffic expert, Ben Hamilton-Baillie, to walk around the village and advise how best to address the traffic problems.
Councillor Martin Freeman said, “Like many rural villages, we have problems with speeding, bad parking and large vehicles thundering down the roads.
“We know it is one of the community’s key problems. In our last survey, 53% of residents were either very or extremely concerned about traffic issues. It can be a real blight on people’s lives; some have even told me that they have considered moving because of it. We have had a number of accidents and near misses and people are worried that it’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt.
“Neither Wiltshire Council nor the police have the resources to design solutions for us or to enforce restrictions, so we’re getting a traffic consultant to help us come up with imaginative ideas that help drivers behave more considerately.
“Ben will spend the day in the village looking at our parking, speeding and other issues. He’ll share his ideas with us in the meeting and everyone will have a chance to contribute their thoughts. We hope that this will lead to a proposal that we can put to Wiltshire Council.
“In the meantime, we will be collecting data on issues and conducting a traffic count.”
