A church in Melksham which is nearly 900 years old is opening its doors for residents to explore historical pictures, items and records.
St Michael’s Church is a Grade II* listed building and is once again hosting Heritage Open Days from Saturday 12th to Tuesday 15th September.
The event will give visitors the chance to view historical pictures dating from the 1700s to recent times, research original parish records including baptisms, marriages and funerals from the late 1700s to modern times and talk to experts about the bells, tower clock and history of the church building.
Church vestments and communion vessels on the altar will also be on display.
There will be a presentation about ‘The History of St Michael’s Church’ by Peter Maslen at 4.30pm on Saturday 12th September only.
The church will be open on Saturday 12th September from 2.30pm to 7pm, with all attractions available.
Parish records and displays will be available for inspection on Sunday 13th September from 12.30pm, after the morning service, to 4pm.
On Monday 14th September, the church will be open from 10am to 4pm. On Tuesday 15th September, the final Heritage Open Day, it will be open from 10am to 4pm.
The church will also be a visiting point for the Wiltshire Historic Churches Ride and Stride event on 12th September, which sees participants cycle, walk, ride horses or drive mobility scooters to raise money for the county’s churches.
