A quiz to test members’ knowledge of the Fair Trade Movement was the start of an interesting talk on the subject given by Vivienne Kynaston from Bradford-on- Avon.
19 members gathered at Shaw Village Hall on 14th October, to learn about this growing international movement, which aims to change the way world trade works, by securing better deals for producers of food and goods for small scale farmers and co-operatives in developing countries.
The Fair trade logo can now be found on almost 5,000 products from over 65 countries. The National Federation of Women’ Institutes are proud to be a Fair Trade Foundation Member.
A successful coffee morning was held at the Reading Rooms at Whitley on the 26th September to raise funds for Macmillan Nurses, and members also supported the Associated Country Women of the World to celebrate their annual international day.
Elderly residents at Mavern house have been visited to help with craft work for the forthcoming Christmas Bazaar.
The next meeting will be at Shaw Village Hall on 10th November at 7.30pm, when Gordon Brockman will speak about his life as an auctioneer. Visitors most welcome to attend.
