IT might be several months off, but excitement is already building for this year’s Melksham Food and River Festival, which will have over 70 stalls and a packed line-up of entertainment.
To mark the countdown to the event, the festival’s committee met last week with this year’s sponsors for an official launch party at Leekes of Melksham – who are also one of the sponsors.
The committee said, “The Melksham Food and River Festival is now firmly one of the town’s ‘must go to’ events in the summer. This year’s festival will be held in the beautiful King George V park in the town centre over the weekend of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September, starting at 10am in the morning both days. As usual this family event will be free to attend. We are delighted to confirm that already over 70 stalls have already booked their place at the festival, offering a wide range of delicious food as well as many local community, charity, and services.
“The popular mix of music, dancing and food talks will again take place in the Leekes Marquee. Popular belly dancing and rock and roll will be joined by a talk on bee keeping and also a talk and tasting on ‘healthy eating’.
“These will be interspersed with local musicians showcasing their talents. New for this year will be the Bells Angels and we are looking forward to welcoming them.
“On the river the Mary Archard and the Damsel Fly will again be transporting visitors up the river. Melksham Canoe Club will be offering taster sessions on the Saturday, with paddle boarding sessions on both days also being available to book.
“On Sunday, Wiltshire Search and Rescue will use the river to show how they support the emergency services in rescuing missing people.
“In addition, there is a special opportunity to charter a boat trip on Friday 2nd September. Please see our web site for details: www.melkshanfoofandriverfestival.co.uk
“The festival committee is delighted to have continuing support from local sponsors – Melksham Town Council, Leekes, Avonside, Melksham Scaffolding, Cooper Tires, Foxhangers, The Market Tavern, Melksham Without Parish Council and VK Graphics.
