LEGENDARY England and Arsenal footballer Paul Merson entertained local football fans recently at a fundraiser evening organised by Melksham Town Football Club.
Paul Merson talked about his footballing career – which included playing for clubs such as Arsenal, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Portsmouth – at a special event held at Melksham Assembly Hall.
Now Merson is a pundit for Sky Sports, weighing in on all aspects of football. After stopping for a quick interview with Melksham TV, the player joined local guests being entertained by comedian Russ Williams before taking to the stage himself. After chatting about life as a top flight football player, he took questions from the audience. Melksham Town FC’s manager, Darren Perrin said, “The night was a massive success. The place was packed and the food and company were excellent. Paul Merson and the comedian were spot on and really entertained everyone.
“It’s great for the town of Melksham that we are able to put on events like this and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community. The King’s Arms were fantastic and sponsored the event and once again people turned out in force which means we are able to plan our next event similar to this. As a football club we rely on people supporting us and we are so grateful for everyone that helps make these events a success.”
The club is already planning two further Sportsman’s Dinner events in 2014. Click here to see Paul’s interview with Melksham TV.
