MELKSHAM town councillor, Sue Mortimer, has resigned her seat representing the Forest Ward, saying that her accountancy knowledge was disregarded.
A former deputy mayor, Sue is the fourth town councillor to resign in the past year, following Louisa Lewis, Carl Houghton and Colin Goodhind.
“It was with a heavy heart that I took the decision to resign,” explains Sue.
“I put in so much time and effort into the role, but struggled working in what I felt was, and is, a negative environment.
“I will continue with the things I do in the community as a resident.
These, I find, achieve much more and are truly rewarding. I hope the residents I represented will understand my decision to stand down.”
A by-election for the vacant town council seat can be called if 10 residents request one in writing. If no request is received, then the town council may co-opt a new member and can choose who they wish to appoint, rather than holding an election.
