Fundraiser brings community together to support centre

A community fundraising event has brought residents together to support the future of a community centre facing rising costs.

The Forest Community Centre at Bowmans Court held a fun day on Saturday 11th July to raise money and encourage more people to use the volunteer-run facility.

The event, featuring fairground rides, giant inflatables, food vendors and a bar, was described as a reminder of the importance of the centre to the local community.

Cllr Jennie Westbrook, who represents Melksham Forest, said, “It was fantastic to see so many people come together to support Forest Community Centre today, especially in such incredible heat. It was a real reminder that this place is at the heart of our community, bringing people together and providing support, friendship and opportunities for so many.

“If we want to protect spaces like this for future generations, we all need to work together, and today showed just how strong our community is when it does.”

Mayor Saffi Rabey said, “Really pleased to have supported the Forest Community Centre Fundraiser on Saturday. It was great to see so many people coming together, having a good time and supporting such an important local community facility. A huge thank you to everyone involved in making it such a successful event.”

The fundraiser was organised as the centre continues to seek support to help secure its future following rising costs, including increased insurance costs after an arson attack in February 2024.

The committee has been encouraging residents and local businesses to support the centre through fundraising, sponsorship and donations to help maintain the facility.
