Fundraising has begun for the new charity, Evie’s Gift, set up in memory of Melksham teenager Evie Clover, who died in January after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The charity is appealing for help to knit pink lapel flowers and are looking for people to take part in a sponsored Jurassic Coast walk next month.
Founded by Evie’s parents, Patsy and Bryan Clover, Evie’s Gift offers support to families whose children have been admitted to hospital with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions. The charity offers financial support which can be used to help with accommodation and other costs associated with their child’s stay in hospital.
Trustee for the charity and Evie’s godmother, Karen Spence said, “The knitted pink lapel flowers will be an ongoing fundraiser for the charity and we are looking for help from the community. We need donations of pink wool and we also need keen knitters to help make them. These flowers will be sold at future events to raise funds for the charity, so any help people can offer will be greatly appreciated.
“I am envisioning some kind of ‘community knit’ to get behind this worthwhile cause – I know that Evie’s story has touched many hearts in the town.”

On Saturday 26th May, the charity has organised a 13-mile sponsored hike along the Jurassic Coast around Swanage, which will also raise money for Julia’s House Hospice. Every mile of the walk will mark each year of 13-year old Evie’s life. “Evie loved that stretch of coast and spent many hours collecting fossils there,” said Evie’s father Bryan.
“Because Julia’s House Hospice provided so much help to us during the last few weeks of Evie’s life, we want to help them out too.
“There’s a £25 registration fee, for which we’ll give you a polo shirt (t-shirt for children) and we ask that you aim to raise £100 from sponsorship – we will provide sponsorship forms.”
