A NEW coach has joined Melksham’s summer tennis club to help encourage local children to take part in the sport.
Coach and ex-competitor Kevin Gissing has joined forces with local coach Louise du Toit to offer twice weekly summer camps and Saturday lessons.
Kevin, who moved to Melksham six months ago said, “I’m really looking forward to holding these camps; I love teaching tennis. Since moving to the town I’ve not noticed a lot going on at the tennis courts, which is sad to see.
“I’d like to help ramp up interest in the town and get people excited about the sport. We’re not looking to do anything huge, just to encourage young people to play.
“The courts at Melksham House are great facilities and they’re right on our doorstep.”
Kevin has been coaching for ten years following a career as a semi-professional player, which saw him enter tournaments across Europe.
The Summer Tennis Holiday Camps will be held at Melksham Tennis Club courts behind Melksham House. They will run on Mondays and Fridays throughout August from 10am – 3pm. The camps cost £15 per child per day, and are suitable for 5-11 year-olds.
Tennis lessons will also be held at 10am on Saturday mornings, costing £5 per one-hour session. These will be taken in group sessions split into 5-8 year-olds and 9-11 year-olds.
Both Kevin and Louise are qualified instructors and CRB checked.
